Today, we celebrate our nation’s heroes – our veterans. The strength and mental fortitude learned as part of our armed forces are lessons of a lifetime. As a Marine serving his country, Mike Morrell learned a lot about duty and leadership. They’re lessons he carries with him in his role as a top producing Realtor. Meet Morrell in this month’s profile. Mike, thank you for your service.

It’s a strength and mental fortitude that is forged with an individual. The strength and fortitude gained sticks with a Marine long after basic training is over and even when service tenure is over

In chatting with Mike Morrell, he exemplifies how his love of service to his country and fellow man shines through his actions in civilian life. As co-founder/team leader of Carolinas Dream Team at Keller Williams Realty within the Keller Williams Fort Mill office, Mike is instrumental in leading his crew of real estate professionals to success. With 12 years in the industry and a career volume of 150 million, Mike is a leader who walks the walk.

As a Marine serving his country, Mike was in the Signals Intelligence field. During his time protecting and keeping our country safe, Mike learned duty and leadership. He learned the value of a team environment and working in unison. It was also a time he learned of his entrepreneurial spirit to lead others and implement plans for success.

After serving in the Marines, Mike immersed himself in the housing industry, working through the facets and learning the ropes. He initially sold construction products such as concrete and steel to home builders. Seeking to expand his career expertise, Mike simultaneously obtained his real estate license and began to work in real estate part-time. His passion and zeal led him to find a new career within the home building industry.

Coming in from the vendor side and with his natural leadership skills, Mike was a star at new homes sales. Eventually, Mike led the Charlotte division of the largest private homebuilder in the country in sales and customer service. He was a man on a mission, and the mission was accomplished.

Mike credits his family for his inherent interest in the home building industry. “Growing up, my mother was a REALTOR®, and my father was a general contractor, so I got a lot of ‘house’ experience just being around that environment. Then, when I was a teenager, my father opened up a cheesesteak restaurant in the Poconos in PA. That’s where I really learned the customer service skills that I rely on today.”

He adds with a smile, “I’ve looked up to my parents, Nancy
and Tony Morrell, more than anyone else for as long as I can remember. They’ve just set a great example for chasing your dreams, not being afraid to take chances, and generally treating people with love and respect.”

Mike’s career in new homes began with David Weekley Homes in Tampa. Mike was given an opportunity to learn and some autonomy in the neighborhoods that he sold, and soon he began to thrive. “I appreciated the culture of teamwork and the environment that supported putting family first.”

Being a dedicated family man, Mike found the schedule within new home sales to be challenging once his kids started becoming more involved in weekend sports. His passion for real estate and entrepreneurial spirit led him to return to his roots in general brokerage. With his charisma and sales knowledge, Team Morrell was underway.

“I love team environments. I found I missed the team camaraderie of the Marines. I wanted to expand my sphere and to help others become masters of their craft by mentoring and teaching teammates to tap into the strengths within themselves,” Mike shares.

Mike found that he needed help to reach the goals that he had set for himself and his teammates, and as a result, set Carolinas Dream Team into motion in 2018. Co-owner Faiyaz Dossaji was an instant comrade. With his experience as a defense contractor with the United States Military, he was a natural fit with Mike’s Marine background. Both men agree on the importance of working as a team to provide remarkable customer service to each of their clients. With over 33 million in sales and 106 families served in 2018, the
team is achieving success by their combined skills and experience in providing the best possible customer experience.

Mike’s and Faiyaz’s vision to make Carolinas Dream Team possible started with the Marine basics of a few good men (and women). They are striving to lead the group to sales of $50 million and to serve 175 families in 2019. Positioning themselves as servants to help others fulfill their dreams of homeownership is the key to their success.

Mike’s leadership plan includes Director of Operations Jen Napoli, Transaction Coordinators Monica Grizzle, Lead Buyers’ Agent Holly Byrd Sullivan, and Buyers’ Agents Denise Brown Hauser, Pete Agey, and Jeremy Langley. Mike shares his success with the folks who work with him daily to make success a reality. The office even has a gong to celebrate daily dealings such as appointments and closings.

So, what’s one of Mike’s greatest challenges? “The responsibility,” he says. “People trust us with what is often the biggest transaction of their lives, and we want to come through on our promise to make the experience a pleasant one.”

But those challenges are worth all the rewards, including opportunities to give back to his clients and the local community. Mike lists some of the ways these rewards are translated: “Seeing team members being able to provide for their families through the business that we built. Helping people realize the American dream of homeownership who truly wouldn’t have been able to do it without the assistance of our team. Being able to contribute to our community through things like our team being Santa and the elves for a local elementary school in a disadvantaged area. Hosting breakfast for area Veterans, helping with maintenance and cleaning at a local woman’s shelter, or the opportunity to help build homes with Habitat for Humanity.”

Looking to the future, Mike explains, “My business partner, Faiyaz, and I are passionate about helping our team members to accomplish their goals. There is nothing more rewarding than providing an opportunity for them to dream big, and the resources to achieve those dreams. The fact that we can achieve our goals by doing the right thing and helping our clients to achieve their goals makes it really feel like we’ve had an impact.”

When not working with his team and clients, Mike loves spending time with his family. He beams when he shares, “Not sure when this is article is coming out, but I’m marrying my dream girl, Libby, on September 28th of this year. I also have six kids! Lindsay, 24, Sydney, 19, Katelyn, 17, Abigail, 15, Gavin, 10, and Eliza 6.” The amazing family loves to go hiking and kayaking, going to concerts, four-wheeling, and traveling.
