Michelle Montgomery Puts People Over Profit!

As a firm believer in the Power of One, Broker/REALTOR® Michelle Montgomery has exponential reach in Charlotte’s real estate community. In only her fifth year in the industry, Michelle is on track to sell over $6 million this year with a stretch goal of $8 million. Michelle has earned a reputation for taking fantastic care of her clients, mentoring agents, and giving back to the community she serves.

“You never know the impact one person, one-touch, can have in someone’s life,” Michelle says. “I strongly believe in building relationships. When I meet with prospective clients, I tell them that listing with me will be like getting married. We will separate once the sales process is complete, but we will never get divorced!”A natural leader, educator, and mentor, Michelle relocated to North Carolina from New Jersey and purchased a national childcare franchise in Lake Norman. She owned the business for eight years and, before selling, she built it into a Five-Star facility, North Carolina’s highest designation. In 2016, Michelle obtained her real estate license and transitioned from taking care of people’s children to helping with their second most-prized possessions, their homes.

Recently, Michelle was selected as one of America’s Top 100 Real Estate Agents for North Carolina – Charlotte, Metro and was also chosen for the Bank of America Institute for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Cornell University. Michelle is a graduate of Rutgers University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. Soon after, Michelle attended Montclair State University, from which she graduated with a Master of Arts degree. Michelle has been an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated for over 25 years.

Michelle was the visionary for the first Keller Williams International Leading Ladies Event with Power & Purpose in the Carolinas Region in March 2021. She has also taken on several leadership roles within Keller Williams Premier Realty.  Prior to partnering with KW, Michelle has held other leadership positions within Fortune 500 companies.

“I’m an entrepreneur at heart, and I’ve invested in real estate personally for many years,” Michelle says. “My dad started teaching me the business when I was ten years old, letting me collect rent and write receipts for his rental properties in New Jersey. My parents always encouraged wealth-building through owning a home, business ownership, and investments. Real estate is the perfect avenue to create wealth and leave a legacy!”

Today, Michelle is on a mission to help as many people as possible to leverage real estate as a wealth-building strategy. Not only does she educate her clients, but Michelle also teaches complimentary classes on financial management, homebuyer education, wealth-building strategies and is often invited by women’s groups to speak about entrepreneurship, wealth-building, and real estate. “I enjoy helping my clients build wealth so they can enjoy a legacy lifestyle,” she says. “It’s so rewarding to help my clients buy their first home, second home, or investment property and start the wealth-building process for themselves and their families. The pandemic showed us just how many people are one paycheck away from being homeless. Real estate, if done properly, can create wealth and leave a legacy.”

Known for being a “pit bull in a skirt,” Michelle is friendly yet relentless. “I always get the job done,” she smiles. “The key is to stay three steps ahead of the market so you can strategically guide your clients through shifts and changes. Real estate reminds me of childcare because I am still nurturing, educating, and keeping people safe. I am grateful to God for my clients’ trust in me, and I work extremely hard to keep it. Sometimes, that means asking a client to wait a little longer to purchase if the timing is not right or save more money to build stronger cash reserves. Real estate is about taking care of people, not just making a sale. I’d much rather have quality than quantity.”

Michelle is tenacious and results-driven as a mentor, leader, and coach who stays focused on empowering, inspiring, and encouraging others. She lives by her Motto of P.O.P. (People Over Profit), which allows her to help her clients and others learn the fundamentals of wealth building. Teaching these fundamentals of financial literacy, budgeting, money management, entrepreneurship, and real estate as an investment helps Michelle develop long-lasting relationships built on trust, honesty, and integrity with her clients.

Michelle is a Keller Williams Social Equity Ambassador for the Carolinas Region, and she serves on the KW Premier Agent Leadership Council (ALC) for the Concord-Kannapolis office, where she co-chairs the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee. “I enjoy mentoring and coaching agents,” she smiles. “Real estate school teaches new agents how to pass the exam and stay out of real estate jail. Agents need to find a firm that demonstrates how to apply what they have learned into practical application. Keller Williams is an excellent place to learn and find a great role model. We share the reasons we make certain decisions through the process, and we use every opportunity as a teachable moment.”

Michelle explains, “It is not safe to hold open houses alone or show homes to someone you haven’t met before; you need to use Godly wisdom in this business. We are teaching new agents ‘not to put the cart before the horse’ is critical. In this tough market, you must work smarter, not harder. A proper client consult is necessary to assist clients in achieving their desired real estate goals.”

Grateful for her success, Michelle likes to bless those who have blessed her. “I make sure to send handwritten notes to anyone who refers a new client to me,” she says. “And I’ll send them a gourmet gift basket once the sales process is complete. I also like hosting client appreciation events, vision board workshops, and teaching classes on wealth-building to say thank you. I often tell my 18-year-old son, Jordan, that you’ll know you’ve found your God-given purpose in life when you would do it for free because you love it so much.
