If you ask Julie Coffey about her childhood home of Wichita, Kansas, she replies with a wry smile, “Wichita, KS. Have you seen the Wizard of Oz? That beginning where everything is a cold, gray bucket of suck that later turns into a techno-color wonderland? Accurate.”
Just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, who made a miraculous journey, so has Julie Coffey. Her life has been a colorful plethora of adventures that led to her finding her dream career in real estate.
Julie attended Baylor University and obtained a BFA in Art Education PreK-12. She later completed her graduate degrees at Winthrop University and at the American College of Education obtaining her Master’s Degrees in Arts (nonprofit), Administration, and Educational Leadership.
Julie’s path has led her through more than twelve years as an educator in public and private schools across the nation, acting as a nonprofit arts integration coordinator and ultimately as a magnet programs coordinator for CMS. Adding to her adventure, she dabbled in publishing with not just one, but twelve books. Julie’s yellow brick road has had many turns, but the one constant has been Julie’s ability to surpass her goals.
And succeed she has! Julie started in the industry in November of 2017. She was recently selected as a 2019 Charlotte Observer Rising Star of Real Estate. She notes success is not always easy. Sometimes it’s a result of hard work and creative practice. “In my life, I’ve worked hard. I’ve tried and failed and tried and succeeded—subsequently feeding my mind and feeding my soul,” Julie says. Creativity is a part of her process for continuous improvement.
If wondering how this fabulous woman manages to gracefully ascend into such a rigorous field, it may just be her continual yellow brick road of moves within her own life. Julie moved eleven times within her first ten years of being married. She has lived in 8 different homes in the Charlotte area alone! Julie knows what challenges life can bring; she is able to harness her unique perspective and be a valuable resource for others experiencing life changes.
The golden path into real estate was an almost organic transition. “There’s a running joke that I’m a mix of Martha Stewart and Joanna Gaines,” laughs Julie. “I love all things domestic, from home decorating and design, to gardening, to trying the latest test recipe in my kitchen. Nothing gives me more pleasure than sharing that spark with someone else.”
Having a passion for historic home renovations and forward-thinking real estate investments, Julie thrives on being ahead of the curve, data-driven and keeping pace with real estate trends.
“The most rewarding part of my business is solving problems and negotiating for my clients,” Julie reflects. “If the thought of buying or selling elicits a feeling of uncertainty, dread or an ‘ugh!’ response, then I am the agent for you. Whether you are an experienced homeowner who needs someone to give accurate advice or you’re a first-time homebuyer who needs some serious hand-holding, I’m a great partner!”
The foundation of Julie’s success stems from her straight-forward Midwest values of integrity and honesty. “Honesty is essential,” she explains. “Hire the professional you think will best represent your interests and with whom you can honestly communicate. If you aren’t comfortable disclosing that to someone in your circle, consider going outside of that to partner with a REALTOR® who can advocate for you.”
Sharing her success in a ‘pay it forward’ style, Julie can often be found mentoring other agents in the office. She also makes a donation to a different animal rescue organization for each of her transactions. An avid animal lover, she laughs, “Homes are meant for four-legged family members, too!”
Tapping into what makes Julie’s yellow brick road a forward momentum of success all starts with her core principle: Clients should always be treated equally regardless of price point. “I make it a point to zone on in each client’s unique goals and interests,” Julie says. “I’m so proud of the many clients who have trusted me repeatedly to represent them on what is likely their biggest financial decision in life.” Because, in the end, there’s no place like home.
