It’s nice to work with someone who understands your business. As a former real estate agent, First American Home Warranty Area Manager Joy Kiser knows the challenges REALTORS® face every day—and the importance of having a partner they can trust.
“I love to help with anything a REALTOR® needs, whether it’s placing orders, helping their clients with claims, or explaining in detail how the warranty process works to buyers and sellers,” Joy says. “I enjoy the interaction with so many people each day and being able to educate them on a product that can save their clients money and help them gain referrals. And I truly value the relationships and partnerships I have formed at First American over the past seven years.”
A Charlotte native, Joy graduated from Appalachian State University, obtained her real estate license, and worked as a REALTOR® after college. “I purchased my first home at the age of 22 and discovered that I enjoyed fixing up homes,” she says. “I quickly learned the benefits of buying and selling every two to three years for a profit. I enjoyed real estate sales, but after six years in the industry, I needed something different. I spent the next 12 years in pharmaceutical sales until I happened upon an opportunity with First American, where I could not be happier!”
First American has been in the home warranty business for over 35 years. Its parent company, First American Financial, has been around for more than 130 years. “We offer one of the most comprehensive warranty products in the industry,” Joy says. “A few of our highlights are no age limitations, no waiting period, and no obsolete-part clauses. If we can’t find a part to repair a system or appliance, we will replace it. We even offer re-key service for buyers, so they can file a claim to have their locks re-keyed before they move in!”
While a warranty can save homeowners hundreds and even thousands of dollars, they must know what the warranty does and does not cover. “Proper expectations lead to the best experiences,” Joy says. “I encourage REALTORS® to pass my information along to clients so that after closing, they can call me with any questions or if they need assistance with claims. My motto is to treat others as they would want to be treated, and I’m someone who genuinely cares and wants to help.”
When she isn’t helping clients, Joy loves going to the mountains near Asheville with her husband of 17 years, Kevin, and their 15-year-old daughter, Lauren. Their Boston Terrier, Piper, likes to tag along with the family, especially if they’re going for a long hike. The family also loves spending time at the Whitewater Center doing various activities outside. Back at home, Joy likes to cook, work out, and tackle a good home renovation project as the need arises. She also remains deeply involved in the local real estate community.
“I’m an active member of Union County Association of Realtors, Crown Charlotte, Gaston Association of REALTORS®, Central Carolina Association of REALTORS®, and Piedmont Regional REALTOR® Association,” Joy explains. “I was named affiliate of the year in 2018 for PRAR and 2020 for GAR. I enjoyed planning educational and social events for REALTORS® before COVID hit, and I look forward to doing so again when we are able. Online, four other vendors and I run a private Facebook group for REALTORS® named ‘Charlotte Real Estate Insiders.’ I encourage all REALTORS® to join!”
