From helping IT clients find new jobs to helping her real estate clients find new homes, REALTOR® Courtney Martin lives by faith and loves her new calling. With 2020 being her third year in the business, she is very proud to be on the Tar and Dee Reid team that finished the year with over $30 million in sales.
“I work for a luxury real estate firm, but I treat every client as if they are buying or selling a $2 million home,” Courtney says. “I’m a woman of huge faith, and I incorporate this into every client relationship. When you dedicate yourself to running a business filled with honesty, integrity, and genuine concern for your clients, you build trust. It doesn’t happen overnight, but when you do the right thing, people want to work with you, be around you, and refer you to their friends and family.”
Born and raised in Charlotte, Courtney worked in IT sales for 15 years and enjoyed helping people find new employment. In 2018, she took a leap of faith into real estate, a field that combined her love of this city with her love of helping clients.
“The decision to transition into a whole new career and entrepreneurship in my 40s was hard,” Courtney says. “Then, shortly after I started real estate school, my grandmother became ill and passed away while I was studying for my exam. It was a sad and challenging time. By the grace of God and some hard work, I passed with an A on my first try. That’s when I knew I was meant to be a REALTOR®.”
Which isn’t to say it’s been easy. “Being a REALTOR® is a hard job!” Courtney says. “Being a single mom of two boys adds to the challenge somedays. I’m fortunate to be on a team that mentors me every step and in every aspect of the business. I have a partnership with very experienced agents who pick up the phone when I call, no matter what, and they lead with their faith in mind as I do. Walking alongside and being mentored by top producers from day one has certainly given me an advantage.”
Being an affiliate of the luxury leader, Christie’s International Real Estate, is also advantageous, and Courtney works hard to exceed expectations. “The home buying or selling process should incorporate not only a lot of market knowledge, data, precise coordination, and top industry contacts such as lenders, closing attorneys, or structural engineers but a lot of laughter, too,” she says. “This should be a happy time for my clients, and I go the extra mile to make it happen, whether they are first-time homebuyers or downsizers. I won’t stop until the goal is done. Even then, I don’t stop. A lot of my client relationships have evolved into lifelong friendships.”
Homemade turkey-shaped cookies for Thanksgiving, charcuterie boards delivered on no special occasion, and simple phone calls to catch up are just a few of the ways Courtney stays in touch with past clients. “I love what I do, and my affection for my work shines through to my clients,” she says. “They’ve told me that I make them feel like they are my only client or as if they were family. When I think clients need some peace about buying or not moving forward with a particular house, I’ve been known to stop and pray right there in the driveway with them. Buying or selling a home can be super stressful, so easing my clients’ burden is important to me. It can take a little creativity in this market, but I’ll go to the ends of the earth to get them into their dream home.”
Since leaving IT, Courtney hasn’t looked back. “I get to continue the path of doing good for my clients, and I wouldn’t change it for the world,” she says. “I don’t have to worry about the future because I know I am where I am supposed to be. And when you are at the center of God’s will, you have peace about what lies ahead. It’s a blessing to be with Ivester Jackson, and I’m excited to continue growing my business in this amazing city.”
