“The best way to predict your future is to create it.” –Abraham Lincoln

Imagine getting off a plane to visit Charlotte for the first time and needing to relocate within a matter of weeks – or in some cases – even days! Knowing the answers to the who, what, where, when, and hows of getting a home in Charlotte are Bonnie Stroup’s claim to fame.

Born and raised in the Myers Park area of Charlotte, Bonnie knows life in Charlotte from its epicenter. She is the only child of parents, Mandy and David Stroup, who live in the Eastover neighborhood. Bonnie’s father, David (who is a native of Charlotte as well), practiced family dentistry, as did Bonnie’s Grandfather, Paul Stroup, in Charlotte’s heart for many years, providing him strong ties to the community. Bonnie is fascinated by listening to her father share how he has seen the city change over his lifetime.

Bonnie’s love of Charlotte led her to return after graduating from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, in 2012. Bonnie was a Business Economics and Art History major and joined the sales workforce for a collegiate apparel company for six years. Loving sales but not so much the constant travel of her line of work, Bonnie was drawn to real estate.

It wasn’t by accident that Bonnie headed towards real estate. Her family friend, Vicky Mitchener, had always seen a light in Bonnie. With Vicky’s background in sales (Xerox) being similar to Bonnie’s, Vicky had always told Bonnie to let her be her first call if she ever decided to leave her sales job. Ready to make a change, Bonnie gave Vicky a ring, and the rest is history.

With three years as a REALTOR®, Bonnie has a career volume of $13,890,251.00. With a year-to-date volume of $8,899,971.00, Bonnie is not letting any dust settle under her feet. Bonnie has achieved awards such as Charlotte Observer Rising Star 2018, Dickens Mitchener Top Producer List 2019 & 2020, and Dickens Mitchener’s Ambassador’s Circle.

Bonnie’s Charlotte roots and her ability to cultivate strong relationships with her clients are the keys to her success. Stroup explains, “I enjoy helping my clients find the home that is the best fit for their lifestyle. Not only selling their current home and finding another home, but really supporting my clients along the way in reassuring them that they are making the best decision for their current situation.”

Bonnie adds, “I am super passionate about the ‘move up’ process for my clients. I have helped many first-time homebuyers, which I LOVE. I enjoy explaining the process in a way that makes home buying less intimidating – much of this attributed to my amazing relationships with my lenders. Also, I am at the age that most of my friends that are close to my same point in life are looking for their second home, or are starting a family and are needing to ‘move up’ to a bigger house, or more yard, or whatever the ‘move up’ factor may be. And on the flip side, I have enjoyed helping clients who are in the downsizer stage who are wanting to ‘move up’ to a home to enjoy their retirement.”

When asked about any fears switching from a stable 9-to-5 salaried job to a 100% commission income, Bonnie notes, “I would be lying if I said my first year in real estate was easy. I was terrified to jump in and have my first sale in fear that I would do something wrong. My mentor told me, ‘You just have to go for it and learn along the way.’ My first transaction in 2018 ended up terminating during the due diligence period due to repairs. It was incredibly defeating, but I learned so much from that and gained experience that I would take into further transactions and my business practices going forward.”

Bonnie gives props to Vicky Mitchener for putting the real estate bug into her ear to get her going as well as to her magnificent mentor, Margo Wells. For a year, new agents at Dickens Mitchener are paired with a mentor who is essentially a lifeline to them getting them up and going by being available for any questions, as well as real-time training. Bonnie is now a mentor to a mentee, Mary Grace Orr, sharing her knowledge and wisdom.

In her downtime, Bonnie likes to spend time with fiancé, Matt Tcherkezian. The two were engaged on December 18th, 2020, and are planning a Fall 2021 wedding. They love to vacation to the beaches of South Carolina. The couple has a 1 ½-year-old yellow Lab, Captain, whom they enjoy taking everywhere with them, especially to check out the many new dog-friendly spots around town. Bonnie is also an active member of the Junior League of Charlotte for over eight years.
